STATION was developed in response to a brief created in collaboration with Art Monthly, the UK’s leading magazine of contemporary visual art, on the occasion of its 50th anniversary.

The artists we have invited are Raheel Khan and Lynn Lu, whose practices approach meaning as something produced collectively through staging encounters, exchange and participation, that challenge conventions of meaning-making and interpretation.
Raheel Khan
Invisible Listening, 2026
Discursive + deep listening event Raheel Khan is a London-based artist and composer working across sound, installation, performance, drawing and text. Originally trained in Economics, Khan has developed a research-led practice that examines the infrastructures through which social life is organised, such as labour, routine, belief, movement, architecture and systems of exchange. Khan’s sound practice overlaps closely with the concerns highlighted by our STATION.

By foregrounding listening, gathering and sitting together for a while, his practice challenges passive spectatorship and ocularcentric modes of encounter. Across works such as Mileage (2020), Khan explores listening as a form of recognition and social encounter. Using recordings made with drivers and passengers from a taxi firm in South Manchester, Mileage interweaves conversation, breath and engine noise into an acoustic portrait of labour, movement, belonging and shared experience. This sensitivity to transient spaces, informal exchange and collective improvisation resonates with STATION’s proposition as a flexible infrastructure where contributions collide and participate in the production of new meanings.

Khan will activate STATION through a durational installation of Mileage, which will unfold over time, punctuating STATION with the sound being broadcast louder intermittently. Khan will be present in person for a dedicated deep listening experience of the work Hum Drum (2023) and take part in a situational podcast conversation. This recorded discussion will extend the activation into reflection and exchange, becoming part of Dispatch, STATION’s situational podcast programme.

Lynn Lu
The weight of raindrops, 2026
Durational performative intervention with audience participation

Lynn Lu is a London-based artist whose practice spans performance, installation and participation, often creating intimate encounters where meaning is made together rather than delivered. As part of STATION, Lynn presents a participatory performative intervention, The weight of raindrops. Her contribution honours the embodied experiences, personal histories and emotions deemed unimportant by dominant power structures as a form of resistance and radical mutual care. Her activation draws from Asia Forum 2026, where she engaged with Cathy Park Hong’s concept of ‘minor feelings’.1 The conversation took place within one of the art world’s most powerful institutional frameworks, the Venice Biennale 2026, one that has historically absorbed and flattened the diverse histories it claims to platform, a tension that docks naturally at our STATION.

For The weight of raindrops participants are invited to write down their minor feelings and seal them within clay envelopes. Using chopsticks as styluses, they inscribe their envelopes, providing a pocket of stillness for their minor feelings to emerge and exist.

Participants are then offered a ‘menu’ of childhood solaces the artist received from her mother – head massaging, hair brushing or being gently swayed in a hammock – offered for as long as they need.

At the close of Day 2, the envelopes are broken open by the artist. The retrieved texts and clay fragments form a growing archive of things felt but not often allowed to be expressed, circulating new meaning through encounter and exchange.
